Job Description:\n\nJOB DESCRIPTIONLead Electrical Design Engineer (Building Services)Role Overview\n\nAs Lead Electrical Design Engineer, you will be responsible for delivering detailed electrical designs and fully coordinated construction information across a wide range of building services projects.\n\nThis is a hands-on role focused on producing high-quality, buildable design outputs that support efficient on-site delivery. You will work closely with multidisciplinary teams and represent the design function in client-facing settings, including design workshops, technical reviews, and progress meetings.\n\nReporting to the Head of MEP Design, you will also provide technical leadership, mentor junior engineers, and ensure all deliverables are completed on time and to a high standard.\n\nKey Responsibilities\n\nProduce detailed electrical designs, drawings, specifications, and calculation packages.\n\nDeliver coordinated and buildable design information for construction projects.\n\nRepresent the design team in client meetings, workshops, and technical reviews.\n\nCollaborate with multidisciplinary teams (mechanical, structural, architectural) to ensure integrated design delivery.\n\nWork closely with BIM teams to ensure accurate and coordinated digital models and drawing outputs.\n\nReview and interpret technical information to ensure compliance, accuracy, and constructability.\n\nIdentify risks and develop mitigation strategies, including maintaining risk registers.\n\nReview external designs, identifying non-compliance, risks, and opportunities for improvement.\n\nSupport RFIs and resolve technical queries throughout project delivery.\n\nContribute to value engineering processes to improve efficiency and reduce costs.\n\nEnsure all deliverables meet relevant standards, regulations, and project requirements.\n\nManage workloads and prioritise tasks to meet project deadlines.\n\nMentor and support junior and intermediate engineers, ensuring consistent quality across outputs.\n\nNote: Responsibilities may evolve in line with business needs.\n\nEssential Skills & Experience\n\nDegree in Building Services Engineering or related discipline (or equivalent experience)\n\nMinimum 3+ years’ experience in electrical design\n\nProven experience delivering design packages from concept through to completion\n\nStrong ability to produce technical deliverables (drawings, specifications, schematics, schedules)\n\nProficiency in electrical design software (e.g., Amtech, Dialux, Relux or equivalent)\n\nSound knowledge of British Standards and statutory regulations\n\nStrong understanding of IET Wiring Regulations (18th Edition)\n\nExperience working within multidisciplinary design teams\n\nExperience in BIM environments with coordinated design outputs\n\nStrong communication skills with the ability to engage with clients and stakeholders\n\nExcellent organisational skills and ability to manage multiple priorities\n\nProactive approach to problem-solving and risk management\n\nHigh attention to detail and commitment to quality\n\nCompetency in Microsoft Office and documentation tools\n\nDesirable Skills & Experience\n\nExperience designing Solar PV and Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS)\n\nChartered Engineer (CEng) status and/or professional membership (e.g., IET)\n\nKnowledge of Department for Education (DfE) and Health Technical Memoranda (HTM) requirements\n\nUnderstanding of decarbonisation strategies and energy modelling\n\nExperience conducting financial appraisals (ROI, carbon savings, energy performance)\n\nProficiency in Revit and BIM-led design environments\n\nCommercial awareness within construction project delivery\n\nExperience working with or alongside main contractors or M&E contractors\n\nKnowledge of fire stopping coordination and builder’s work requirements\n\nExperience contributing to value engineering processes\n\nAbility to improve processes and drive team efficiency\n\nGeneral Requirements\n\nMaintain strict confidentiality of company and client information.\n\nWork safely and in compliance with relevant HSE guidelines and company policies.\n\nCommunicate clearly and professionally, both verbally and in writing.\n\nMaintain a professional appearance at all times.\n\nDemonstrate initiative and the ability to work independently.\n\nEffectively prioritise workload and meet deadlines with strong attention to detail.\n\nTake a proactive, flexible, and conscientious approach to work.\n\nDevelop a clear understanding of organisational procedures and QEMS standards.\n\nReport any visits from external agencies (e.g., HSE) to line management immediately.\n\nPerson SpecificationQualifications\n\nEssential:\n\nDegree in Building Services Engineering or related discipline (or equivalent experience)\n\nExperience & Technical Competence\n\nEssential:\n\nMinimum 3+ years in electrical design\n\nProven delivery of coordinated design packages\n\nStrong technical knowledge of electrical systems and compliance standards\n\nProficiency in industry design tools (Amtech, Dialux, Relux or equivalent)\n\nUnderstanding of IET Wiring Regulations (18th Edition)\n\nKnowledge & Additional Expertise (Desirable)\n\nKnowledge of DfE and HTM compliance requirements\n\nExperience in energy modelling and decarbonisation strategies\n\nAbility to assess energy performance, carbon savings, and ROI using data analysis
